| Elgeseter bridge damaged by AAR – repair, in-situ measurements and CRFP test location. | Dora I Submarine bunkers built by the Germans in WWII– Parts built with OPC have been damaged by deleterious AAR, while parts built with slag cement have not been affected by AAR. |
Delegates are invited to participate in the pre-conference tour from Friday-Sunday, directly preceding the actual conference. Starting in Oslo Friday 13 June early afternoon with a private luxury coach, the pre-conference tour will visit a number of AAR-damaged concrete structures. However, the tour will have its main focus on AAR-susceptible rock types in their natural habitat, with special emphasis on the geological background (eg. metamorphism, retrogradation, deformation), and how that background may affect their AAR-susceptibility.
The tour includes two overnight stays at Hafjell, 15 km north of Lillehammer (Olympic Winter Games 1994), and at Savalen, 13 km from Røros, a UNESCO world heritage site and a former copper mining camp. Sunday morning , the coach will head for Trondheim to arrive in the afternoon at the conference venue. The total driving distance is some 650km/400mi in a comfortable luxury coach, some 10h over 3 days
The tour crosses the Bothnic/Atlantic watershed, passing the 2500km long Caledonian mountain chain. Even in June, Norwegian summer weather can be quite unpredictable, so participants should pack both watertight clothing and sturdy footwear, as well as sun block and shades.
The pre-conference tour is open to both delegates and accompanying
persons and can be booked using the registration form
elsewhere in this circular. The number of available seats is limited,
and reservations will be handled on a first-come-first-serve basis!
